As 2017 comes to an end, we wanted to take a few moments to reflect on the past year and share some of the things our team accomplished and experienced, both professionally and personally.
Up first, Annie:
How is 2017 almost over?
As I sit and reflect on accomplishments and challenges, both professional and personal, I’m filled with a sense of gratitude and purpose. This year we tackled a few new programs and kicked our sales engine into high gear, but we also slowed down a bit and gave our team some time to learn and grow. Out of that growth, we learned that instead of continually running at warp speed, we needed to make time for professional development and fine-tune some of our processes. As a result, we managed to ramp up our social media presence, launch the Third Avenue Events Blog, and attend an industry conference. We also established a process to make future growth seamless and natural. I feel very confident that our team is ready for everything that 2018 will bring. We are strong. We are focused. And we have the passion to make a difference!
From a personal perspective, my son became a teenager this year. And I have two things to say:
- To the parents who have one of those already, I salute you!
- To the parents who have MORE than one of those, I’m praying for you!
I also traveled a bit with my family (hoping for a LOT more of that in 2018) and managed to read a few books just for fun this year. Success all the way around I think!
Overall, from my vantage point, it has been a great year for me, and for Third Avenue. I’m looking forward to the holidays with a heavy dose of Christmas spirit in my bones this year. And I’m almost ready to embrace 2018 with open arms and a welcoming smile. I hope all of you can say the same!
Woah. Where did all of 2017 go?! It seems like it was just January, and I passed my Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) test (humble brag), and then we hit the ground running with programs, site checks, and sales meetings, oh my! Ok, I promise, I’m done with the puns and brags. In 2017, we traveled from coast to coast, finding new properties and favorite restaurants along the way. My top pick – Pendry San Diego – I’ve been back three times, and plan to visit once more before the year is out. Seriously, they now have a champagne vending machine. What else need to be said? As for a favorite restaurant from this year, it might just have to be Stock Hill Steakhouse, right here in my hometown of Kansas City!
My husband and I made sure to make sometime for personal travel too (thanks Southwest Companion Pass!). He traveled along with me much more than he has before, joining the fun in San Diego, New York, Napa Valley, Phoenix, and Ireland! Go travel, people! Explore the world! There is no better way to experience life and culture, and you get to have a great time doing it.
2017 was filled with adventure, both professionally and personally, and we cannot wait to see where 2018 takes us. Big things are coming for Third Avenue Events, stay dialed in to see what comes next! *Hint: more humble brags may be coming!
Last, but not least, Nicole:
Time seems to fly by faster every year! It’s hard to believe it’s already the end of 2017.
It has been a remarkable year on several fronts. For Third Avenue, we have launched the very blog you are reading right now (glad you’re here!) and challenged ourselves to come up with interesting and informative topics every month. We also expanded our internet presence over to Facebook, where we launched our company page! It’s been a fun and rewarding experience watching our friends, family, clients, partners, etc. all get to interact with the team in new ways. Sometimes the easiest way to explain what you do is to just show people! We have all really enjoyed getting the chance to provide “behind the scenes” photos and videos of programs we’ve worked on the past year.
This year I also had opportunities to travel from San Francisco to New York and a few places in between to see friends that I don’t get to see very often, like Jimmy Fallon. Just kidding. I did get the chance to attend one of The Tonight Show tapings at his studio in Rockefeller Center though! If you’re in New York and you’re wondering if it’s worth the FREE ticket, the answer is yes (duh!). My face actually hurt from laughing so much.
Cheers to 2018 and the adventures it will surely bring! I’m so proud to be a part of the Third Avenue team and cannot wait to see what new challenges, successes and lessons the next year brings.
Happy Holidays from the entire Third Avenue Events team!
